Why We Start With Women

Women are the economic engines of our communities. At Olowu Hope Initiative, we believe that when a woman thrives, a family stabilizes, and a community transforms. That’s why our first economic empowerment intervention begins with women β€” giving them capital, confidence, and control over their future.

🀝 Community Lending Support Groups

To reduce default and increase success, women are grouped into small lending circles that foster accountability, support, and peer mentoring. These groups not only monitor repayments but also build a culture of trust, shared learning, and social capital β€” especially for women who have never had access to formal financial systems.

  • 25 lending groups established across 4 LGAs
  • Encourages peer-to-peer learning and responsibility
  • Strengthens local female leadership and networks
  • Builds community resilience and cooperation

πŸ“Š Monitoring & Impact Evaluation

We track every loan disbursed and every business supported β€” measuring repayment, reinvestment, and improvements in household income. Our goal is to generate data that proves that microcredit, when interest-free and backed by community support, can lift women out of poverty permanently.

  • Monthly tracking of repayment and profit increase
  • Personal success stories documented and verified
  • Integrated with mobile SMS reminders and feedback
  • Data used to improve future rounds and reach more women
